Angel Custom "KRATOS" Ultra High Strength / High Performance Steel Teeth AEG Piston (Model: KRATOS Standard)
The Angel Custom KRATOS piston has long stood as the supreme king of airsoft pistons. Its extreme durability paired with its impressively light weight has made it a top pick for airsofters looking to max out their build with the best parts available. The original Angel Custom KRATOS piston was developed through a partnership between, Evike Performance Shop and Umbrella Armory, as they set out to engineer the perfect AEG piston capable of meeting the demands of the most extreme airsoft AEG builds possible. The piston was designed to be detail perfect. Every micrometer of its design was given thorough consideration. From the spacing of the rail guides to the cut of the teeth, the KRATOS was forged from an insatiable thirst for flawlessness.
For a time, this was undoubtedly the go to piston for any premium budget build. It’s indeed overbuilt for most modest rifle builds, but that was the point. Airsoft didn’t have an exceptional premium option before the KRATOS. As good as it was, pickier techs over the years begun to make small criticisms about the piston’s design. Sure, the piston was durable. But it didn’t quite solve the issue other brands were ironing out by extending its length and cutting more teeth for better AOE correction. After all, it matters little how durable your piston is if the angle of engagement is poor. Damage will begun to accumulate if the piston isn’t marrying up with the gearset at a healthy angle. From this concern, a new piston was born: The KRATOS II.
Angel Custom "KRATOS" Ultra High Strength / High Performance Steel Teeth AEG Piston (Model: KRATOS II)
No, the material of the rack hasn’t been switched to pure 24 karat gold. The KRATOS II makes a few minor adjustments to the original piston’s design to make it a convenient alternative option over the standard KRATOS. Here’s a diagram highlighting the differences:
The most significant difference between the two is that the KRATOS II is designed to be an out-the-box AOE corrected option. It has a half-tooth shaved off to prevent premature piston engagement in high ROF builds and an extra 3mm of shaft length to let the piston seat a tad bit farther back for better gear engagement. Keep in mind that the KRATOS II is not optimized for every AEG setup. If your rifle’s piston head or cylinder head are already recessed for AOE correction, the standard KRATOS is likely the better option. The KRATOS II is simply a convenient alternative for systems that aren’t pre-modified. Lastly, the Gold Titanium Nitride coating improves durability and makes it easier to detect wear patterns on the piston for easy problem assessment.
The Half-Teeth variant has all the same features of the KRATOS II, but has the tooth rack cut down the side for use with high torque 32:1 and 40:1 gearsets. I would also recommend this piston for use in Version 7 gearboxes where the spur gear is dangerously close to the piston assembly.
